Holy Week and procession “Following the Cross”

For more than 500 years, the “Following the Cross” procession has been held on the island of Hvar, which, due to its significance, tradition and continuity, has been included in the UNESCO list of intangible cultural heritage.
On the night of Maundy Thursday, at 10 p.m., processions from 6 churches and parishes (Jelsa, Pitve, Vrisnik, Svirče, Vrbanj and Vrboska) start.

SCHEDULE FOR HOLY THURSDAY (06.04.2023) IN JELSA
• at 3:00 p.m.: Afternoon procession “For Our Lady in Mourning ” (Parish Church in Jelsa)
• at 6 p.m.: Mass “in coena Domini” (Parish Church in Jelsa)
• at 9:30 p.m.: UNESCO procession “Following the Cross” – Departure of the Cross (Parish Church of Jelsa, Pitve, Vrisnik, Svirče, Vrbanj, Vrboska)
10 p.m. – 6 a.m. UNESCO procession “Following the Cross” – Welcoming the “Crosses” (Parish Church of Jelsa/ Pitve, Vrisnik, Svirče, Vrbanj, Vrboska)

In the town of Hvar on Maundy Thursday, there will be a Holy Mass of the Lord’s Evening at 7 pm in St. Stephen’s Cathedral
Good Friday in the town of Hvar:
3:30 p.m.: “Visiting God’s  Graves” procession
7 p.m.: rituals of the Passion and Death of the Lord (service of the word; adoration of the Cross; Holy Communion; procession with the Holy One around the town), St. Stephen’s Cathedral.

Sunday, Easter

10 a.m. – Holy Mass
19:00 – solemn evening Holy Mass
7:30 p.m. – Holy Mass
