Internationally acclaimed experimental dance artist Vasiliki Papapostolou, also known as Tarantism, comes to Hvar with a performance exploring the relationship between the body, systems of control and contemporary society.
Through her artistic work, Vasiliki investigates how structures of power and surveillance become embedded within the human body and continue to function long after external authority disappears. Her work is especially focused on the moment when control becomes internalized when the body begins to regulate and correct itself without direct enforcement.
Her choreography combines demanding physical performance with layered storytelling, raising questions about identity, social norms, unconscious bias and the mechanisms that shape human experience.
She graduated in contemporary dance from Trinity Laban Conservatoire in London and completed a master’s degree in education at King’s College London, where she explored the sociological dimensions of dance education and issues of inclusivity in the arts.
Her solo work PANOPTICON has received major international recognition, including the Audience Award and Third Jury Prize at the MASDANZA Festival, along with awards in Germany and the United States.
Her latest production, Lucid Absurdities, premiered in 2025 to critical acclaim, receiving coverage in leading publications such as The Guardian and The Observer.
Vasiliki Papapostolou has performed internationally at venues and festivals including Sadler’s Wells in London, Whitechapel Gallery, Kunstfestspiele Hannover, Šibenik Dance Festival, Arts On Site in New York, Cadiz en Danza and many others.
Alongside her performance career, she is also active as an educator and jury member at international dance competitions and workshops throughout Europe and the United States.
