On the occasion of the 1100th anniversary of the Croatian Kingdom, on Saturday, October 18 at 7 p.m., a music and stage project titled With Grace by the Sea and by the Mountain will be performed in the cloister of the Franciscan Monastery in Hvar. The project is inspired by the first Croatian novel, Mountains by Petar Zoranić.
Performed by the Renaissance ensemble Plavca Nova, the audience will experience a unique musical and poetic journey through Zoranić’s world of nymphs and shepherds, interwoven with Renaissance sounds and a deep love for the homeland. A special guest of the Hvar performance will be Lada Morpurgo on the vielle and rebec.
The concept, musical reconstruction, and selection of texts were created by Igor Paro, the ensemble’s artistic director, while Stipan Kujundžić crafted unique traditional string and plucked instruments mentioned in Zoranić’s work. Each performance offers an authentic experience of the original Zoranić language and the spirit of the Renaissance.
The Hvar performance is part of the concert cycle “Our Beautiful Homeland / With Grace by the Sea and by the Mountain”, held in several Croatian cities and abroad, with the support of the Ministry of Culture and Media of the Republic of Croatia and the Hvar Tourist Board.
Admission is free.
