Spartan returns to Hvar from 8 to 11 October 2026
From 8 to 11 October 2026, Hvar once again becomes one of the global stages for Spartan racing, bringing together elite OCR athletes and recreational racers from around the world.
At the heart of the programme are the Spartan 100M World Championship and Spartan Sprint 5K World Championship, while the weekend also features the Super 10K, Beast 21K and Spartan Kids races, as well as the opportunity to complete a Trifecta.
Hvar is much more than a backdrop for the race. The course incorporates town streets and steps, the coastline, rocky terrain and challenging climbs, passing some of Hvar’s most recognisable landmarks, including the ascent towards Fortica Fortress.
100M & Sprint 5K World Championships
Hvar hosts World Championship races in two distinctly different Spartan disciplines.
- Spartan 100M World Championship is a short and explosive 100-metre race where speed, strength and precision on the obstacles determine the result.
- Spartan Sprint 5K World Championship takes place over a course of approximately five kilometres, combining running, technically demanding terrain and signature Spartan obstacles.
Alongside World Championship competitors, parts of the programme are also open to recreational racers who want to take on the Spartan challenge in Hvar.

Spartan Trifecta Weekend in Hvar
For those looking for more than a single race, Hvar is also a Trifecta Weekend destination.
The challenge is to complete three different Spartan distances during the same weekend – Sprint, Super and Beast. That means three races, three different challenges and more than 35 kilometres of racing across Hvar’s terrain.
Hvar as part of the course
One of the defining features of Spartan in Hvar is the way the race connects with the town and its surrounding landscape.
Sections of the course follow the coastline and cross rocky terrain, existing trails and town streets, while the climb towards Fortica Fortress brings one of Hvar’s most recognisable landmarks directly into the race experience.
Spartan also features water sections and floating obstacles, giving the Hvar race a character that sets it apart from a typical OCR course.
Spartan Kids | a challenge for young racers
The Spartan weekend is not reserved only for adult competitors.
The Hvar Spartan Kids Race takes place on Friday, 9 October, with races adapted to different age groups:
- 1 km ages 4–6
- 1.5 km ages 7–9
- 3 km ages 9–14
Young racers can take on their own Spartan challenge and become part of the World Championship atmosphere in Hvar.
