Strong Turnout for Year-One Event on Hvar Island, Excitement Builds for 2025

The inaugural event SPARTAN on Hvar Island saw an impressive turnout, with 2,798 registrations received (after accounting for transfers and cancellations). On race day, 2,503 racers collected their timing chips and started the race, with a final count of 2,327 unique racers after filtering out duplicate entries.

The event attracted participants from across the globe, showcasing its international appeal. The country breakdown of registrations highlights the global diversity of competitors, with notable representation from:

  • Croatia: 759 racers
  • United Kingdom: 138 racers
  • Czech Republic: 179 racers
  • Serbia: 265 racers
  • Hungary: 198 racers
  • Other countries such as the United States (94), Germany (108), and Austria (128) also had strong participation.

Participants hailed from regions as far as Brazil (13), Canada (8), Australia (3), and Malaysia (1), reflecting the event’s broad international draw.

While the numbers focus on racers, they do not account for the many spectators, family members, and over 150 volunteers who came from across Europe to help run the event. These invaluable volunteers, alongside Spartan staff, marshals, and crew, ensured the smooth execution of the event.

Looking ahead to 2025, the outlook is bright, with 259 tickets already sold. Organizers anticipate a larger racer volume and smoother operations for the second edition, buoyed by the excitement and lessons learned this year. A stunning 26-minute highlight reel has been created, featuring breathtaking footage of Hvar, and will be shared globally to generate more buzz leading into next year’s event (October 9-12, 2025).

The team is already excited to welcome more racers, volunteers, and supporters in 2025. Here’s hoping for perfect weather once again and see you in Hvar, Spartans!
