On Wednesday, June 10 at 8:30 PM, Arsenal Hvar will host the opening of “Neutral Buoyancy Sculptures”, an exhibition by Croatian sculptor and multimedia artist Petar Popijač.
The exhibition presents an artistic research project developed under the guidance of the Croatian Diving Federation and in collaboration with the Draulik Diving Club, exploring form, space and movement in conditions of neutral buoyancy.
About the Artist
Born in Varaždin in 1988, Petar Popijač is a sculptor and multimedia artist who earned his doctorate in sculpture from the Academy of Fine Arts in Zagreb. His work focuses on investigating the boundaries of sculptural practice and the morphology of forms beyond conventional principles of statics.
A member of both the Croatian Association of Visual Artists (HDLU) and the Croatian Freelance Artists’ Association (HZSU), Popijač has participated in numerous solo and group exhibitions in Croatia and abroad, including the Croatian Sculpture Triennial, Youth Salon exhibitions, “Situacija” in Zagreb, and exhibitions in Strasbourg, Dresden and Slovenia. His sculptures can also be found in public spaces throughout Croatia.
Sculpture as a Spatial Experience
Through aquarium installations and video projections, visitors are invited into an immersive experience of spatial meditation where sculpture meets movement, light and visual reflection.
The exhibition explores new possibilities for sculptural creation in conditions of neutral buoyancy, offering a fresh perspective on the relationship between body, space and form.
Educational Programme
The exhibition also includes an educational lecture and guided tour, providing visitors with insights into the artistic research process, innovative sculptural techniques and the interdisciplinary approach that combines traditional sculpture with experimental investigations of form.
