Where: St. Stephen’s Square, Hvar
The Croatian Radiotelevision Jazz Orchestra, one of Croatia’s most influential and long-standing jazz ensembles, will perform in Hvar as part of the Hvar Summer Festival.
Operating within Croatian Radiotelevision, the orchestra has played a key role in shaping the Croatian jazz scene through concerts, radio and television broadcasts, and collaborations with renowned local and international artists. Since the 2019/2020 season, the orchestra has been led by conductor and composer Miron Hauser.
The orchestra built its international reputation beginning in 1955 with a performance in Cologne, followed by tours and appearances at major European jazz festivals. A defining moment came in 1962 under the direction of Miljenko Prohaska, when the orchestra began focusing on original jazz compositions and developed its distinctive artistic identity.
Over the decades, the orchestra has collaborated with many leading figures of the international jazz scene, including Art Farmer, Clark Terry, Johnny Griffin, Jon Faddis, Dee Dee Bridgewater, Christian McBride, Arturo Sandoval and many others.
The orchestra is also recognized for its extensive discography and collaborations with prominent Croatian musicians and ensembles such as Matija Dedić, Marko Tolja, Cubismo, Tamara Obrovac and the band Chui, with whom it won two Porin music awards.
Audiences in Hvar can look forward to an exceptional evening of big band jazz performed by one of Croatia’s most prestigious orchestras.
