Hvar Hosts the 28th Festival of Professional Theatres for Children and Youth (26–29 April 2026)
Hvar will be the host of the 28th Festival of Professional Theatres for Children and Youth from 26 to 29 April 2026. Audiences can enjoy 10 performances from drama studios across Croatia and follow the awards for the best pedagogical work and best overall production.
The festival is organized by the Croatian Centre ASSITEJ in cooperation with the City of Hvar and HVAR 1612, and will take place at the historic Hvar Theatre.
For the third consecutive year, Hvar welcomes this important national theatrical event, bringing together drama studios and theatre educators from across Croatia. The festival promotes high-quality drama pedagogy, encourages creative expression among children and youth, and strengthens theatre culture for new generations.
Festival Program
Over four days, audiences will have the opportunity to watch 10 performances from drama studios across Croatia. The program offers a diverse and high-quality selection of contemporary theatre for children and youth, featuring professional guidance and opportunities for exchange among directors and participants.
An expert jury will award prizes in the following categories:
Best Drama Pedagogical Work
Best Overall Performance
Recognized Excellence
Last year, the organizers received a special award for successfully hosting the festival and revitalizing the participation of children and youth through theatre. This recognition confirmed the importance and value of the project for the local community and the broader cultural environment.
Hosting the festival in Hvar contributes to enriching the cultural offerings of the destination in the pre-season and further positions the city as a center for cultural and artistic events for young audiences.
