This year’s festival theme explores the relationship between the individual and the community, with a focus on the inevitable feeling of occasional alienation and the potential for long-term loneliness. What are the possible causes of maladjustment to the community or some unforeseen change? Which changes do we initiate ourselves, and which are imposed on us? Are we naturally individuals, or do we necessarily strive to become part of something, whatever that something may be? Where is the boundary between us and what we have decided to become?
We live in a world where someone is always on the other side of what is accepted. It’s only a matter of time before the accepted and the rejected switch positions. By becoming aware of what is different and accepting diversity, we open up a space in which we ourselves can become recognized and accepted.
Through various forms of contemporary theater, this year’s edition of the FORMAT festival aims to highlight perspectives on adaptation and change that are often hidden or invisible.
In addition to the performance segment, the festival program includes a three-day contemporary dance masterclass open to the public.
