Dunja Knebl, Nina Romić & Jelena Galić | Three voices and traditional songs about women’s destinies
When: Saturday, August 22, 2026 at 9:30 PM
Where: Malo Grablje, Hvar
The new musical project by Dunja Knebl, Nina Romić and Jelena Galić presents a powerful and emotional interpretation of Croatian traditional music heritage through the album “Bilo je sada”.
The project brings together three artists of different musical backgrounds: Croatian ethno music pioneer Dunja Knebl, singer-songwriter Nina Romić and multi-instrumentalist Jelena Galić, who use three voices and fourteen traditional songs to tell stories of women’s destinies throughout history.
Although some of the songs are several centuries old, their themes remain universal and deeply relevant today. The album explores love, the position of women, violence, hope and resilience, revealing how many human experiences continue to repeat through time.
The songs are based on archival collections of Croatian traditional music, and most of them had never previously been recorded, making the project an important revival of forgotten or nearly forgotten musical heritage.
Special attention is given to the songs “Čula jesam da se dragi ženi” and “Tica lastavica”, which have already gained popularity among audiences and performers of traditional music.
The album “Bilo je sada” was released in October 2024, while the vinyl edition was published in March 2025 by Menart.
Audiences in the authentic atmosphere of Malo Grablje can expect an intimate evening of powerful female voices and a contemporary approach to Croatian traditional music.
