Young Croatian percussionist Dane Franolić will perform at the historic Hvar Theatre on September 19, 2026 as part of the Hvar Summer Festival.

Dane Franolić (Zagreb, 2004) is one of Croatia’s most promising young percussionists and a third-year percussion student at the Academy of Music in Zagreb.

Over the past several years he has distinguished himself through performances at international competitions and festivals, earning numerous awards and recognitions. In 2023 alone, he won six awards, including first prizes at the Percute Competition Catarroja in Valencia and the International Percussion Competition “Stevan Strunjašević” in Belgrade.

At the Filadelfia Festival in Tropea, Italy, he won first prize in the marimba category and the absolute first prize in the snare drum category, where he also gave his first solo concert outside Croatia.

He is the recipient of a Yamaha scholarship as well as a scholarship from the University of Zagreb, and participated in Yamaha’s international congress in Hamburg.

Franolić has performed at festivals and concert series throughout Croatia and Europe, including the Vatroslav Lisinski Concert Hall, UniART Festival and the IPEW Festival in Bjelovar. During the summer he completed his first solo concert tour along the Adriatic coast.

Alongside his solo career, he has collaborated with numerous ensembles and musicians across different musical styles, including Stjepan Hauser, Il Volo and the Young Musicians Orchestra in Berlin.

His mentors at the Academy of Music in Zagreb are professor and dean Igor Lešnik and assistant professor Luis Camacho Montealegre, while he has also studied with internationally renowned artists such as Ivana Kuljerić, Pius Cheung and Nancy Zeltsman.

The audience at Hvar Theatre can expect an inspiring performance by a young artist bringing fresh energy and virtuosity to contemporary percussion music.
