LUKA MODRIĆ: MY GAME
Join us at the theatre on 30 January at 8:00 PM for a performance directed by Arija Rizvić, created in collaboration with the Croatian Football Federation (HNS) and Boss Teatar.
The play is based on the inspiring autobiographical life story of Luka Modrić. Known as a modest man of few words but great deeds, Modrić reveals in this intimate theatrical confession what drives him on the pitch and beyond it—his most important personal moments, love, family, losses, and everything that motivated him to reach the very top and remain there for so many years.
The captain of the Croatian national football team has played on the world’s greatest football stages, and now he steps onto the theatre stage as well. A play about the greatest Croatian footballer of all time presents his story from a new perspective—that of drama. It is an emotional and personal portrayal through which audiences come to know the young man who overcame numerous obstacles on his journey to becoming the world’s best footballer.
“Everyone knows Luka as the captain of our national team, a football genius and virtuoso, but he is also a son, father, husband, grandson, and brother. Through this play, we wanted to bring all these facets of Luka Modrić closer to the audience and offer a deeper insight into the life and football challenges that shaped him into the player and person so deeply respected by teammates, opponents, and football fans alike. For me, he is a perfect dramatic hero—someone who sacrificed a great deal on his path to success and faced many hardships, obstacles, and setbacks. It was an honor and a great responsibility to take on this project. I am proud of the entire team’s work and sincerely believe the audience will enjoy this portrayal of Luka’s life story,” said director Arija Rizvić.
The play reveals who stands behind Modrić’s success, the challenges he faced, and how he overcame them. At a time when children and young people dream of fame from an early age, Luka’s story is a reminder that the greatest achievements must be earned—above all through hard work and perseverance. As Luka himself often says: “The best things never come easily.”
Although football is its central theme, the play conveys universal messages about growing up, family, sacrifice, and success that resonate across generations, especially with children and young people, for whom Modrić’s example can serve as a powerful life inspiration.
