After 17 tons of oil leaked into the sea from INA’s underground fuel tank in the center of Hvar on April 25, followed by a twenty-day cleanup effort, sea quality testing was conducted.

INA commissioned the sea water analysis from the authorized company Hidro Lab d.o.o. – Laboratory for Ecological Testing. Surface seawater was sampled from two locations in Hvar: Križna Luka beach and in front of the Amfora hotel.

For comparison, a reference seawater sample was also taken from Prva Voda beach in Split, which is also near a small harbor, to serve as a baseline for hydrocarbon levels in seawater.

“According to the analyses and analytical reports of surface waters dated May 8 and 9, the results of surface seawater analysis from the two beaches in the City of Hvar do not deviate from the values determined at the beach in Split.

The analyses indicate that the beaches — specifically the sea in the area of the City of Hvar, including Križna Luka and other beaches — are suitable for swimming,” INA stated.

Work on the fuel tanks will continue until early June. At the same time, renovations are underway at the gas station.

“Interior refurbishments are in progress, along with the relocation of electrical and communication infrastructure. A new awning, doors, logo, and coastal kiosk are being installed. A new stone façade is being added, along with new utility installations,” INA said. They announced that the marina fuel station in Križna Luka, Hvar, will begin operations on June 15.
