Advent in Hvar: Winter Magic on the Most Beautiful Island
The Christmas and New Year program in the town of Hvar will once again offer a rich and diverse selection of events at several locations across the town. The City of Hvar, the Hvar town Tourist Board, and the Cultural Public Institution HVAR 1612, in cooperation with local associations, societies, institutions, and the Hvar Parish, have prepared a program for all generations to give the community and visitors even more reasons for togetherness, joy, and festive spirit.
The Advent houses will once again be the central gathering place, offering a variety of gastronomic delights, holiday treats, and additional entertainment. The festive atmosphere at the opening of the houses will be enriched by a concert by Vesna Pisarović, transforming Pjaca once again into the island’s most beautiful winter stage, a meeting place of music and good cheer.
The Hvar Theatre remains the temple of culture, hosting numerous concerts, including performances by Uršula Najev and Renata Sabljak, as well as a range of holiday events, including those specially designed for our youngest visitors.
Highlights include the traditional Christmas Ball and Slatko od Božića (“The Sweetness of Christmas”), both adding a special charm to the holiday season. The program will also feature a stand-up evening with the guys from Splicka Scena, along with other diverse cultural content for all age groups.
This year’s program boasts an impressive 84 events, with the musical section alone including 24 concerts at various locations. From open-air pop-rock performances to classical and spiritual music in indoor venues, the program will feature both local and guest artists as well as performances by children. Among the artists taking part are Stela Rade, Velvet Spell, Mišomanija, Katica Marinović, and local talents including Band Glavni, Veneranda Collective, and Xmas Blues, all contributing to the festive spirit in the town.
Sports and recreational activities are once again an important part of “Winter on the Island.” The traditional New Year’s football tournament and the international New Year’s regatta will attract numerous participants and sports lovers, while the 11th Hvar New Year’s Sea Jump will once again celebrate the island’s unique Mediterranean spirit during the colder winter days.
The program also includes various lectures, films, gatherings, quizzes, fairs, and events that will add to the rich festive atmosphere and highlight the importance of community.
